It’s that magical time of year when the mud and potholes migrate back to our area. Bill and Jaz discuss their exciting weekendplans, and our friend Bill Scher explains the shenanigans going down in DC.
So…2014 is over. Some things happened during it. You know what? Let’s all just agree to not look back. There are so many good things ahead of us – like a new Star Wars movie! And yes, ways to improve your community, ways to be a more informed citizen. So let’s all have a Happy New Year, and try to not annoy Bill by talking at the movies. Unless you’re these guys:
It’s been a pretty upsetting week for fans of justice. Bill and Jaz process their reactions to the decisions to not indict the officers responsible for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.*
In the midst of all that, however, there is still amazing work being done to heal the trauma of violence. We talk to Sarah Smith, development director of Safe Passage, about this weekend’s Hot Chocolate Run, and how you can Step Up for Healing, Hope, and Change, all while enjoying one of the best events of the year in downtown Northampton.
*Bill was still a little delirious from jet lag and a stomach virus, which is probably why he kept referring to Eric Garner as “Ed.” I eventually heard it and corrected him. Sometimes I’m only paying half-attention to what he’s saying because I’m trying to focus on the equipment he’s saying it into.
Happy Black Friday everyone! There’s no show today, as Bill is hanging with the family on the left coast. Next week we’ll be talking with Sarah Smith, Development Director of Safe Passage, and the woman who puts on one of the best events of the year here in Northampton. And that’s what this post is about.
Whether you’re spending today scrambling to find great deals, or avoiding the whole consumerist racket, we’d love it if you could take a moment, and a few dollars, to donate to a worthy cause. You’ll hear more next week about what a vital organization Safe Passage is, but contributing now will give you that warm glow that comes from feeling superior to everyone who hasn’t contributed yet. That’s our gift to you.
This weekend, the Young@Heart chorus will be performing a benefit for CISA and Safe Passage. During the Valley Free Radio fund drive, we talked to Bob Cilman and Jean Florio from Y@H, and Sarah Smith from Safe Passage. The tickets we offered on the air have been spoken for, but tickets for the show are still available! Get ’em while you can!
